BIG NUGGET DISCOVERED

ON THE WEST COAST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hokitika, September 11. A nugget weighing 114 ourciy, and valued at £450, was found in thu lloss Borough a few days ago, witnin a cnain of the Ross Goldfields claim. Two men named Sharp and Scott picked up a couple of small nuggets' in ebandoned ground, and being encouraged to continue, came upon this find, it is about the size of a white stone turnip and containing a little quartz. The nugget was bought to-day. It is proposed to name it after the Minister for Mines.

Wellington, September 11. The Mayor of Ross telegrap'aed to-day to the Minister for Mines, the Hon. R. McKenzie, that a gold nugget weigning lOOoz. lOdwt. had been found in a claim adjoining the Ross goldfields mine. The request was' made that t'he nugget should be named the " Hon. Roddy." The Minister replied that lie was willing to fall in with the suggestion re name.
