At the Supreme Court, Herbert. Uirkott, train conductor, charged with man slaughter in connection with the Onehtniga fatality, was sentenced to six months/ imprisonment without ha.-i labor. Mr. justice Edwards said that no other verdict than the jury had brought in was possible. Accused had caused the death of an old woman by gross negligence, and he must be imprisoned, not to make mi example of him, but in order not to create an example wlriei would have had consequences. The •Judge added that he had ascertained that prisoner would not be associated with ordinary criminals in the gaol.
