Tiio amount of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,980,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,250,000 quarters. The Atlantic shipments total 332,000 quarters. Silver, 2313-16 d. Tli« Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Stratford, have received the following cable from their London house, under date 6th inst.: " Frozen mutton: Market continues advancing. Frozen lamb: More enquiry. Frozen beef (sides): Market easier."

TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SIALE. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, 31st August, I held my usual four-Weekly sale of above produce. The catalogue comprised 1739 ov anil cow hides, 126 yearlings, 5424 calfskins, 3801 sheeipsltins, 23 bales and 80 sacks wool, 33 casks and 69 tins tallow, besides horas, cowtaite, horse hair, etc There was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was keen throughout. Calfskins again came forward in large numbers. These were eagerly sought for, at up to as high as 10y 8 d per lb., the record price for Stratford sales. Here again I would impress on clients the advisability of taking proper 'are of their calfskins and hides. The annual loss through calfskins not being sufficiently salted is considerable to settlers throughout Taranaki. Wool and sheepskins advanced %d to %d per 10. Ox and cow hides sold at prices equal to those ruling at my last sale, any change being in sellers' favor. Tallow advanced 10s per ton.
