GISBORNE DROWNING FATALITIES.
BODIES NOT YET RECOVERED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, SepceiuOLr i. So far no trace has been found of the bodies of either of the two men who were drowned in the tributaries of the Waihuka river yesterday. Thomas Robinson was crossing Gold Creek ford when his horse stumbled. The rider was thrown into the water, being carried instantly into the flooded river two chains away. The second accident occurred at a small unbridged creek near the Waihuka homestead. Dudley Mackenzie undertook to drive a cart across the ford after his driver had passed the opinion that it was unsafe. The vehicle capsized and was swept into the river a few yards away. Tue unfortunate man, weighted with an oilskin and gum boots, had a poor chance to escape, as the stream was running at a great velocity. Mackenzie was 26 years' of age. Wit'r his brother he occupied the Otoko grazing run. With the presence of 500 n,en at the railway works in the vicinity, he worked up a profitable business supplying meat. He belonged to a well-known Hawke's Bay family.
