The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Robert Snodgrass, a well-known Nelson merchant, at the age of seventy.—Press wire, (Miss Edith Campbell Walker, 'who has just given £IOOO to the Australian Dreadnought fund, is supposed to be the richest woman inj the Commonwealth. She is of Scottish parentage. Her father emigrated from .his native town, Leith, and acquired extensive lands in the early years of Australian' colonisation.
Air. W. C. Cargill, late proprietor and editor of the Patea Press, and formerly proprietor of the Wairarapa Age (Maslerton), has purchased a stationery business 1 at Stratford. Upon leaving Patea Mr. Cargill was made the recipient of a pair of opera glasses and a gold fountain pen at the hands of the Patea footballers. Occasion was taken by the Mayor, Mr. Christensen, to acknowledge the services rendered to football in Taranaki by the guest of the evening. .Mr. Cargill lias the good wishes of a host of friends for Success in his new venture.
