GIRL ATTEMPTS SUICIDE.
RESCUED IN TIME. By Telegrapn.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A girl, aged about 20 years, attempt" ' suicide last night at Manchester strci. bridge over the Avon. She was noticed
by a young man who saw her climb on to the railing of the bridge and fling herself into the water. He followed into the river and pulled her to the chore. This morning she appeared at the Magistrate's Court to answer a, charge of attempted suicide. Sub-inspector McGrath said that as far as he could discover the girl hurt had a severe illness' some years ago and since then had been subject to fits of melancholia. She was living with her parents. Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M.. .'aid that he 'would not address the gfrl in public, but would leave that matter to thr family. She was convicted and discharged! > •; ;,..■,
