LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Saturday Night. The New Zealand ladies' championship tournament was continued on the "iecrcation Ground to-day. There was a good attendance. A fairly strong wind was blowing, which rather spoil the play. The following are the results:— Wairarapa A. v. Wanganui, a draw, ore goal each; Wellington beat Horowhenua by 1 goal to nil; Hawkc's Bay B beat Wairarapa. B by 2 goals to 1; Auckland beat Nelson by 3 goals to 1; Hawkc's Bay A. beat Taranaki by 2 goals to nil. Hawkc's Bay A, having won eight games without sustaining a defeat, are practically the winners of the tournament and the cu;p. Auckland, with seven wins and one loss, are second. Napier, Later. The New Zealand ladies' hocked championship was brought to a close on Saturday. The Wellington team, owing to some of their players having returned home, found they would lie tillable to play Hawke's Bay A on Monday, and as this would leave Hawke's Bay A undisputed winners of the championship, they having gone through the tournament without defeat, the_ various visiting teams met and decitlecT to cancel Monday's fixtures. Hawkc's Bay A, with 8 wins and no losses, thus wins the championship for the second year in succession. Auckland, with 7 wins and 1 loss,! Is second; Nelson, U wins and 2 losses, third; Taranaki, a wins and 3 lossed, fourth. Hawke's Bay B, 4 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw; Wairarapa A, 3 wins, 3 losses, 2 dra'ws; Wellington, 3 wins, 5 losses; Horowhenua, 1 win 6 losses, 1 draw; Wanganui, 0 tosses 2 draws, and Wairarapa B, 7 losses, 1 dra'w, followed in that order. The tournament will be held next year at Nelson.
"Bully," in the Eltham Argus, has a word or two for the New Plymouth hockey people in connection with the hockey tournament at Eltham on Thursday. He says: "New Plymouth (despite the fact that they have three teams in the competition of the northern division) did not send a team, withdrawing at the lasfraomenL This action was very severely criticised by the playra present and' I think they were quite justified in doing so. It is certainly not a very sportsmanlike thing to enter a team "and then withdraw on the morning of the match. But although New Plymouth 'slipped up' the other chili* | in this manner they appeared to man- ! age very well without them."
