Hutchison, Opposition candidate for the Uangitikei vacancy, ripened his campaign hist -night with an address nl Wanganui East. lie explained that the time being too short to allow of n'l arrangement, or 11 compromise between himself and Mr. Hockley, it had bceiii decided that, lioth should go on and that which ever was left in the second ballot, ihe other would assist him. lie made n vigorous attack on the Government and said Mr. Carroll's appointment as Acting-Premier was a reflection on the white men in the Cabinet. The Premier was severely criticised in connection with the retrenchment in the Civil Service, the Dreadnought- offer and the closing of Parliament while lie proceeded Home. Tn answer to questions Mr. Hutchison declared himself i n favor of the Sht.o reserving Ihe right to issue bank notes, Dominion option and a referendum on large constitutional questions. He was accorded n vote of thanks.
