IULLSKOUOL'GH, The plain and fancy dress ball that is to take place oil Thursday next, September 2nd, is being looked" forward to by the lovers of the light fantastic with no little pleasure. The music will be supplied by an efficient orchestra from ■Sew Plymouth, and an enjoyable evening is anticipated. The committee arc giving two cash piws, one for most original ladies' fancy dress, and one for gulls, to be decided by ballot. All that is rci|uiml to make it a success is good weather, but in any case a lai'ge crowd is expected. Arrangements are being made for a 'lms to run from town.
. A resolution was passed at the last meeting of the Kgmont Road Board to the effect that steps be taken to merge the road district into the county. Petitions are now in circulation for signatures to that end. It takes, I understand, a majority of the ratepayers representing a .majority of rateable value for the petition to be valid. I do not think there should be much difficulty in obtaining the necessary number, considering that the district contributed, ■between £l7O and .€IBO per mile for the short piece of county road within its area, and 1 believe the piece mentioned (from the Waiwakailio bridge to the stream on the north side of the Bell Block Dairy Factory) costs less for maintenance than any other portion of the county roads. The average cost for the whole of the county roads is, I understand, between £oo and £OO. Messrs. J, Martin, 9- C. Sampson, an 4 Herbert ■ Martin (three members) of t](e Poad Board) intend to tyait on ratepayers for their signatures and to present the petition to the next meeting of the County Council.
