XiKOKASIII. The determination of the Dairy Department to prosecute in eases where butter which contains over 10 per cent, of moisture has been exported is a step in the right direction, and if the Department will now refuse to grade as . "tirst" any butter showing, say, over I 14 per cent, of moisture, tlie Xew Zea- | land article will soon regain the good | name it has hitherto borne on the r.ng. I lish market. I'nfoiitiinately there appears to be a reluctance on the part of many engaged in the industry to face 1 the position, as it is feared that publicity will .be dutrimenui to the interests of the producer. But this is quite a mistaken idea, for the British merchants are already thoroughly conversant -with the whole matter,' and it ; s reported that for the coming season they are stipulating for a guaranteed butter-fat content of not less than 85 per cent. It is satisfactory to knowthat ffie Government is thoroughly alive to the seriousness of the position, which, had Mr. Cuddie's warnings been xtlended to, would never have arisen. Another of that fast diminishing band of pioneers has crossed the "great divide" in the person of Mr. Henry Faull, who passed away on Saturday afternoon. He had been seriously ill for some time, hut the end came with rather unexpected suddenness. Mr. Faull arrived in New Plymouth while quite a child with his parents i n the ship William Bryant, and passed his boyhood in that town. During the Maori"troubles Mr. Paull joined the volunteers, tnd later came to Tikorangi and served with the rest of his company on the blockhouse hill. For his services he received a grant of land in this district, on which he lived continuously until his death. Mr. Faull took great interest in public affairs, and for a great many years was chairman of the Waitara Kast Road Board. Under the stress of advancing age lie retired from active participation in public life, with the exception of educational matters, in furtherance of which he solely devoted himself, and was at the time of ais death a member of the Board of School Commissioners and the senior member of the Taranaki Education Board, flrcat sympathy is frit fo r the bereaved widow .Did a grown-up family of three sons and live daughters who are left to mourn their loss. The interment took place to-day at the Tikorangi cemetery, und was attended by a very large number of relatives and'friends'.
The dread disease consumption has claimed another victim in the person of Mrs. Harold Bundle, who died at the residence of her father, Mr. S. Knuckcy, On Sunday morning, at the early age in' 25 years. Mrs. Bundle had becil ill 'or some time, and the loss of her little boy appeared to hasten the progress o: the malady from which she was suffering, and her death was not altogether unexpected. The greatest sympathy i» expressed for tile bereaved husband "and parents.
