TO THE NORTH POLE.
BJALLOOX VOYAGE ABANDONED. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, August 22. The start of Mr. Walter Wellman's projected balloon voyage from Spitzbergen to the North Pole was attended with ill luck. After quitting Spitzbergen a hoseshaped bag containing provisions, attached to the balloon by a guide rope, and used as an equilibrator, burst and compelled a return. Mr. Wellman has relinquished the attempt for the present year as the balloon is also seriously damaged. It had covered only 32 miles before the accident occurred.
