ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A SAD FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Thames, Last Night. Robert McCalluin, aged 33, employed in connection with drudging operations on th. „ mku swamp, fell oil' the steam* ship Albany this morning and was drowned. He was a Scotsman, and had just sent money Home to bring his wife and children to this country. The body has not been recovered.
AX OPJSX VERDICT. Chrltftehurch, Last Night. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Lewis Albert Klerig, who was found in the river Avon yesterday, and a verdict of death by drowning was re turned, there being no evidence to show how he got into the water. The late Mr.' L. A. Klerig was well known throughout the Dominion in years gone , bv, as traveller foj* the firm of Skelton, Krostick nml Co., with which he has been connected for a very long time. The deceased gentleman was al6o identified very intimately with both craft and capitular .Masonry, being an old meml er of i lie Canterbury Lodge, 1048, and i'lso of several Royal Aro Chapters, etc.
LOST IX IIIE SNOW. Christchiuvh, Last Night. * There is no trace of the missing man Donald McLean, who was lost in the iiiot;n:ai;is west of Hanmw. A strong search party under the leadership of Consla'Me Hird left this morning to search between Pollie's Pass and ,thc Clarence accommodation house. The snow is thawing very fast over the country.
A WELLINGTON FATALITY. Wellington, Night. An inquest was concluded to-dav on the body of William Dempsey, who diod from injuries received through behg struck by an electric tramcar On Monday evening. Some sacks of chaff had fallen from a lorry and deceased was helping to re-load them when the accident happened. 'lt was shown that the motorman in charge of the car had done everything possible to prevent the accident. A verdict of death from misad* venture was returned, the CMroner stating that the motorman was quite blameiless.
SUICIDE AT WANGANUI. Wanganui, Last Night. A laborer named Oscar Olsen committed suicide this evening by jumping off the town bridge. He had been drinkhg about the town.
DROWNED IN A BATH. Dunedin, Last Night. A case of suicide occurred at the benevolent institution this afternoon, an inmate named Timothy Hagan drownin? himself in a bath, ft is the custom of the inmates to have a bath on Fridays. Deceased informed a nurse at 2.30 that he would have a bath it 8 p.m., but half an hour later he was found in the bath quite dead, the door having to be forced open. Deceased had removed all his clothing except a flannel, and had bound his legs with n strap. Deceased had been suffering from cancer. He was admitted to the home on June 22. •
WOMAN LOSES HER LIFE. Dunedin, Last Night. Emma Smith, wife of Thomas Richard Smith, a railway porter, residing at North East Valley, lost her life by drowning at St. Clair to-day. A woman named Mrs. Finlayson saw deceased sitting on a seat. She then heard a scream, and saw; deceased floating in the water. By the time assistance was procured the body had disappeared, but it was subsequently recovered. Deceased had been suffering from insomnia for some time. When she left home this morning she had a six weeks old child with her, but the infant has not been found so far.
