DEFENCE NOTES.
RIFLE TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA,
A meeting: was held last night o' those interested in the proposal to send a Tarannki team to the big Australian meeting.
A committee was set up to ascertain how many men are prepared to make the trip and what arrangements cm be made, the committee consisting of Captains Mills and Fletcher. Sergeant Evans, Privates T. King and T. JUarelt, anil Rifleman C. Speck, with power tit add to their number.
Messrs T. King, C. Speck and M. .1 Marsh were appointed a selection committee.
The following recommendations will be forwarded to the committee:—That any member of the team who may he assisted be required to donate to the funds of' the Tarannki Rifle Association a portion of his cash winnings, if any.
MEETING OF CADET OFFICERS. There was a good meeting last night of the public school cadet officers, Major Sainlford, V.D., presiding. It was decided to have the range and range appointments put in order, and to commence class-firing at once. After some discusion, it was decided not to join in with the volunteers in their iielil day on King's Birthday. The ollicers will all attend the* class of instruction to be held shortly in New Plymouth.
It was deeidpd to recommend the various companies to procure a supply of uniform lilue knickers for the cadets. Major Sandford arranged an officeis' class for, knotting, lashing and splicing.
