HOMING PIGEON NOTES.
FIRST RACE .OF THE SEASON. The New Plymouth East Flying Club, recently formed by local enthusiasts, opened the season yesterday by holding a race from Waverley, a distance of 58 miles. The weather was very favorable, and the members evinced a keen interest in the event, showing that the club's future success is assured. Although the weather on night of hampering showed signs of being unfavorabl \ 50 birds, representing nine lofts, were entered for the event. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster, and all of them homed in good time, showing that the club have the right material to work on for long distance flying. The velocity recorded was 1203 yards per minute, the following being the result of the placed birds:—
Ist, H. .J. Moverley's "Rangitira," lhr. 24mb. 30sec. 2nd, C-. Wright's "Juno," lhr, 24min. 40sec. 3rd, W. Boulton's "Ginger," lhr. 25min. 20sec. 4th, W. Gloenson's "King," I'hr. 30 mlns. 40see. The next race is from Aramoho, 83 miles, on Thursday next.
