OTIRA TUNNEL DEADLOCK, x By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A telegram from Otira states t'liat a representative of the Labor Department and Mr. Gavin, engineer in charge of the tunnel work, had a conference to-day regarding the dispute, but nothing definite was arrived at.
WATERSIDE WORKERS. Wellington, Wednesday. The Waterside Workers' Conference carried n resolution having for its object the obtaining of a uniform award. Wellington, Last Night. The following resolutions were passed at the Waterside Workers' Conference: That steps be taken to secure that powe r of discharging men be limited *o foremen in charge of a job; that employers be asked to agree to a standard of adequate sleeping accommodation to be provided for men on outport work; that be taken to cheek men holds, making slings' in excess of weights provided under awards; that a claim be made for equal overtime rates of pay 'or all men engaged in outport work.
