THE ROSE SHOW.

. The committee set up to Inaugurate the Rose Show under the atwpiecs of the Xew Plymouth Horticultural Society met last night in the Mayor's room, his Worship the Mayor (the Society's president) presiding. -There were also present Mrs. Ealt, Messrs J. Gibson, J. H. Frethey, S. \V.* Sfiaw, F. Goodaere, J. ,J. Staples, and X Hooker (acting [secretary). The Stratford Horticultural Society's rose schedule, revised and enlarged, was adopted for the initial show, providing awards for named blooins and unnamed in separate sections, vases and bowls, button-holes and sprays, of rosesj with a special nurserymen's section for collection of roses properly classed and aamed.

Some discussion took place concerning a proposal to allot special classes for ladies, hut it was thought by the majority that the ladies would not take the provision as a compliment to their rosegrowing abilities, and the motion negatived.

It was decided not to charge entry fees or to give cash prizes. The offers of Messrs Jas. Laird and Sons (Wangairai), J. R. Duncan (Wcstown) and "it. W. Davies (Westown) to donate valuable prizes in trees were accepted with thanks.

It was decided that a sub-committee should apply to the Borough Reserves Committee in an endeavor to secure the Council Chamber and the old library room for the show, the exact date of which will be fixed later. The King's Birthday is suggested, and the show will, if practicable, be held on that day.

It being pointed out that the general committee of the Society had no power to add to its numbers by embracing this special committee, and that the Rose Show Committee had power to add, it. was'decided to add the names of the general committee members for the further management of the show. The secretary was given authority to have the schedule printed and circulated.
