RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
A PROCEEDI.VI OBJKCTED TO. By Telegraph.—rress Association. Christehurch, Last Night. The Railway Appeal Board considered an appeal by John Sweeney, wharf foreman at the Blulf. which was based on tlte ground that th,. stationmaster at the Bluff declined lo reeo end him for t'n increase of pay, A number of witnesses, most of them subordinate to him stated that they were satisfied with the' way in which Sweeney hael discharged Ins duties. Mr. Haseldeii, chairman of the Hoard, said if this procedure were adopted in appeals' the better way would be to call a public meeting of all railway servants at the Bluff and take a vote as to whether Sweeney was a good man or not. In dismissing the appeal and intimating that the Board would probably suggest Sweeney's transference, Mr. Haseldeii s*iel unless appellant in such cases' as the present could show that a certificate was withheld from corrupt or improper motives he would be unsuccessful.
