A CJIMWE OF BIGAMY. By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Christchurch, Lust Night. As the result of an inquest on a chil 1 named MeajyerSj which was held yesterday Station Sergeant Johnston and Con.■stable Jackson made some inquiries re garding the father. Investigations re vcaled the fact that lie had been married twice, and had four children by his iirst wife, and one by his second wife. He gave his name as John Whitford, and I was arrested on a cliarge of bigamy.
THE DOMINION'S POPULATION. Wellington, Last Night. The population of New Zealand on June 30th last (exclusive of Maor's 47,731, and Cook Islanders) is estimated at 900,340. During the June quarter arrivals numbered 0,725, and the departures 10,242, or ft loss of population of 3,5517. There -were, however, (1,7.10 births, as against 2,180 deaths, '""■'"'a the net increase for the quarter I,om. MORE IMMIGRANTS. Auckland, Last Night. Another batch of immigrants, totalling 140, arrived from England by tlic steamer Devon late last nigat. l'"i'tyeight of the number are for Auckland, I! for Wellington, and 25 for Port Chalmers. The Hew arrivals are chiefly tradesmen, with a few fanners and do I mestic servants.
