ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FOUND DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. * Wellington. Thursday. The inquest on Harry Thompson, whose body was found in the harbor, was resumed. Medical evidence was given to the efl'ect that the wound in deceased's neck was in an uuusual position to be caused by a fall. It was more likely to have been caused from a blow, which, if severe, would caus'e unconsciousness. And the condition, of the body showed that deceased was unconscious when drowning took place, j A verdict of death by drowning, with j no evidence to show how deceased got into the water, was returned. A SAILOR KILLED. Foxton, Thursday, Last night a seaman belonging to the steamer Mon, named Michael Louis, met with a fatal accident. Deceased was returning on board the vessel after a day ashore, when he fell over the gangway into the water. He was res-
cued within two minutes, but his neck was found to be broken. It is supposed he struck the wharf in falling. Louis was slightly inebriated at the time. INQUEST. . Gisborne, Last Night. An inqucs't on the body of Edwin James Norton, drowned in the Turanganui river, was held to-day. Deceased had been drinking heavily. A verdict of found drowned was returned. The Coroner (Mr. W. Barton. S.M.) said the circumstances of death were deplorable. Some person was to blame. He urged the police to make the fullest investigations.
