Ransford, Laver, Cotter, Carter and Trumper were omitted from the colonial team. The weather was fine and the wicket easy. The attendance numbered 7000. fflie home team in its first innings made 228. Macartney took five wickets for 39. When stumps -were drawn Australia had lost one wicket for 58, Hartigan being 38 not out. EFFECTIVE TRUNDLING. Received 3, 11.23 p.m. London, August 3. Barnes, playing for Staffordshire against Cheshire, took 14 wickets for IS runs.
