TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa"). Multifid is again in work in Otago. bir I'l-isco is whispered as an unlikely starter in the Winter Cup. Penates has superseded North-East an a hot un" for the above race. ftiiiimera is a certain starter in the VVinter tup, but Muskerry may not be taken to Riccarton. The old fellow's legs are sound enough, and the only conclusion one can com c to is that the trouble lies in the shoulder. Mr. Geor°e has decided to give the horse six months spell, which will probably have the desired effect. .
The meeting between Tc Arai, Le Beau and Capitol at Riccarton next week is causing a good deal of diseussion. On Wellington running Te Arai is a greatly improved horse, but it must be remembered that whereas Capitol had 16 pounds the worse of the weights in the Wellington Steeple, there will only be 31bs between the pair at Riccarton. This writer is of opinion that even had Capitol stood up at Trentham, Te Arai would still have been returned the winner, and the latter is sueih a. fine big horse, a dashing jumper, and with heaps of pace, that a trifle more on top should not trouble him over country. Le Beau beat both horses at Ellerslie and must b e accounted well in. Although thij years National Steeple suffers as gards quality, there will be any amount of room for speculation when the field, which will probably number eighteen, lines up for the start.
