HOCKEY
AN UNHAPPY FAMILY. LADIES' HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Masterton, Last INignt. . Matters in the ladies' hockey circles in Wairarapa district appear to be in a state of chaos, and one no end of grumbling about matters in relation to the affairs of the Ladies' Hockey Association. Three men were appointed to select teams to play a match at Masterton, with a view to the choosing of teams to take part in the ladies' hockey ; tournament in Napier this month. The teams were picked on Saturday last, but the Masterton selector was unavoidably absent through illness, yet the teams w-ere picked by other Jtwo selectors, t both belonging to South Wairarapa, and published in the papers .without the Masterton selector beinjg consulted in' any way. Judging from comments, the teams have been badly chosen, there appearing to be some tavoritism, while players have been allotted positions in which they have never before played. There 4s considerable discontent over the whole question, and unless matters' are smoothed over Wairarapa will be poorly represented at the tournament. Furthermore, a referee has been appointed for Thursday's match whose incompetency is well known, his decisions being most unfavorably received and whom a large section of the playing members strongly object to having thrust upon them to control the game. Verily the Ladies' Hockey Association U not a happy family.
