AMUSEMENTS.
ALLAN HAMILTON'S COMPANY. "MESSAGE FROM MARS." To-night Allan Hamilton's Dramatic Company will present that magnetic play, "A Message from Mars." It is a "play with a purpose, ami far above the melodramatic type. The plot is perhaps familiar to nearly everybody, the "Message" having had several very successful runs. A tjellish man, who has acted shabbily in regard to the pleasure of other m embers of t he household.. Stays at home to read a scientific book instead of keeping his promise to go to a party. He tails oil' to sleep, and has a most realistic dream, in the coarse ot which the "Messenger from Mars" has brought him to a sense of his utter selfishness, and he awakens quite a new man, who exerts himself for the good of others. There is a pretty reconciliation scene when t he girl who loviw Him (.Minnie Tcmpler) and Aunt Martha discover the pleasing change in his nature. 111 .speaking of the production in Sydney, the Morning Herald says: "Those who have seen the splendid acting in the piece in the past naturally made comparisons with the latest production, and they have to admit that the representation made by the AHau Hamilton Company is a highly successful one. The beautiful scenic effect's produced were far ahead of any attempt in a similar direction that could be made when the piece was previously put on in this city. The way in which the company has laid itself out in the matter of scenery is a striking example of what can be achieved in that direction. Certainly a great 'hit' was made iast night' Those who had seen the j-lay before rejoiced heartily in the ienewal of acquaintance, and those who had not seen it had a most pleasurable surprise, notwithstanding all they had heard beforehand in approbation of "The Message from Mars. 5 \ Owing to the shortness of the tour only one night will be devoted to e acli of the small towns of New Zealand. The success of this piece has been so great that Mr. Hamilton has just returned to Australia to form a new company that will tour Australia with that piece only. Tonight Mr. George Cross will be seen as Horace Parker, while Miss Ada Guildford will take the part of Aunt Martha.
