Mr. J. B. Hine wrote re improvements to back-blocks roads.—The letter will bo acknowledged with thanks. Councillor Robertson gave notice of motion of the institution of a special order declaring the noxious weeds comprised in the third schedule of tile Act, and including pennyroyal and variegated thistle (if_ tne .latter can be identilied) to be noxious weeds within the county. Notice of intention to levy genera) rates in conformity with sectioa 117 of the Counties Act, 1008, was given as follows:—Stratlimore riding, l%d per £ on the unimproved value j Pohokura riding, ly 2 d; Central riding, 2d; Tahom riding, l'/^d. Upon the motion of Councillors Anderson and McCluggage, the question of th: control of trali'ie over the inetaued l'oads of the Central riding was re. ferrcd to a committee consisting of the chairman and Councillor Robertson and the mover, the comniitteo to bring down proposals at next meeting of the Council. The chairman read a copy 01 his letter to the Stratford County Council in reply to their request for assistance in maintaining the Oliura. Road from this county's boundaries to Douglas railway station.—The Council approved of tae chairman's action in the matter. Councillor Meredith reported upon tin matter of a pound-site at Stratlimore, which had been referred to a committee of Stratlimore riding members. ~lasked that the Council grant an extension of time until next meeting, when a definite proposal would most likely be made. Thy request was granted. Councillor Jones brought up the matter of the order of expenditure 01 the £3BOO loan and subsidy thereon. He stated that, if possible, it was desired by the settlers that some expenditure should he made from the Strathmore end, instead of adhering to the ongina. order of expenditure.—lt was decided that the solicitor's opinion as to tie legality of the proposed alteration ill til'.: order of expenditure be obtained, <mu, if same is favorable, Councillor Jones be empowered to obtain the signatures to a petition asking for such variation in the order of expenditure. Councillor Robertson reported that he had some necessary work done on tiie Whitianga road.—Approved. A special order raising £9O, being the extra 10 per cent. 011 the original loan for the Kohuratahi road, and the special order making by-laws for the licensing and regulation of billiard-rooms within the county, were confirmed. Accounts as read, amounting to •£227 10s Bd, were passed for payment.
