ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
YOUNG MAN'S END. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Cliristcliurch, Monday. Harold Melville Stoveuuuii, aged' 24, was reported missing on June 23. When l'c left home he hail with him a dou'iile barrelled gun and a bicycle. These were found on the river-bank a few days later. This morning the body was found in the river. It appears that Stevenson was very despondent .prior to leaving his home on June 10th last. He hired a doublebarrelled gun from a second-hand dealer, and was last seen alive riding along Colombo .Street on the date mentioned. Subsequently the gun, containing two discharged cartridges and pieces 01 string attached to the triggers, was found in the river. When the body was examined this morning a gunshot wound was found in the left temple. At an inquest to-night a verdict oi dentil'from a self-inllicted gunshot wound was returned. FOUND DEAD. ' Wellington, Last Night. James Macartney .Mitchell, aged 52, a stonemason, was found dead at his lodgings. Ingestre street, to-day. Heart disease is believed to have been the cause of death. Deceased was a married man. NCAUAI'RANGA RAILWAY FATALITY. Wellington, Lust Night. The inquest on John Cummings, platelayer, aged 47 years, a widower with seven children, who was killed on Saturday on the railway line between Ngahauranga and Pctone, was concluded today. Tire Coroner found that death was drought about by deceased, who foi some reason of his own crossed the lino without being aiware of the train approaching, and that he was run into accidentally when he was in such a position that neither the driver nor the fireman could see him. No blame whatever was attachable to them.
A message received in Wanganui from Waitotnra says that the body of a missing man named Peter Naiighton, has been found. Mr. Ilarrv Peppers, manager for F. R, Jackson and Co., while, mustering sheep in the paddocks of the estate, discovered the corpse of the unfortunate man under a tree stump in an open paddock, near a wire fence. It would appear from the position of the body that the deceased had crept in under the stump for shelter, and had died from exposure. Constable Wilson and party left for the spot with the object of conveying tire remains to Waitotara, whore an inquest will be .held.
