RAIIOTU. A farewell '-social" was tendered Mr. James Garcia at Kahotu on Monday evening. Air. Garcia has been appointed manager of the Stratford branch of H. Brown and Co., sawmillers. There were it% a hundred persons present, who all recognised the untiring work he had done during the four years he had been ni the district. Mr. Wright, on behalf ot the residents, presented Mr. Garcia with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of the esteem m which he was held, and also m recognition of his many services to the public. Mr. Wright made special reference to Mr. Garcia's work in connection with the new hall, and said lie was mainly instrumental in getting such a good structure. Mr. Garcia was full of energy, as ho not only devoted attention to the hall, but assisted football and athletic clubs. He wished Mr .and Mrs. Garcia long life and happiness in their new. sphere. The company then sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mr. Garcia thanked them for the handtome present, but said such was not necessary for him to remember Rahotu. As chairman of the Hall Committee lie had received every courtes'v, and 'every one had worked well together. The residents of the district, by their hard work, were responsible for the hall. During the evening songs were sung by Messrs. W. Shepherd, Willoughby, and Storex. Mr. Knowlcs supplied music for the dance, and Mr. Fielder acted as JM.C. .The ladies supplied a dainty supper.
