WAITAKA. {From Our Own Correspondent.) Ihe Literary and Debating Society held their usual fortnightly meeting on Diesday evening. The evening was devoted to impromptu debates, and prove 1 most interesting and profitable. The meeting commenced at 7.30, when buainwa Was transacted and subjects arranged. At 8 o'clock numbers were drawn and then subjects in order. Taa subjects of debate were very wide and noked several spirited debates. Among the subjects dealt with were, the following: "'Die justification of sending Sir Joseph Ward to England," the "Uni\ersalisation of Technical Education,' "Die Darwin Theory," "The wearing of a token of their pledge by engaged i and married men." The meeting: con--1 eluded at 10 p.m. I he euehre party and dance given bv the Hvy Assemblies on Tuesday evening was, as usual, very largely attended. The first euehre prize was won by Miss IJ. Knuckey, Mrs. A. Andrews being second. .Mr. L. Surteii and Mr. W. Free were the successful players among the men. .Music was supplied by the Wailiira Orchestra in their usual efficient manner. Mr. L. Tate acted as M.C.
