SLY-GROG IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. Leonard Russell pleaded guilty to n charge of sly-grog selling in Tnranaki street, and was .sentenced to a month in gaol. THE MOTOR "HOG." Christcliurch, Friday. The police have entered on a crusade against the excessive speed of motors on the streets and roads. Another case w.is before the Court, to-day, Dr. Diamond being fined 20s and* costs for riding at a Sliced dangerous to the public safety on the Sumner road. The c:i6C received a lengthy v hearing. Mr Haselden, S.M., said the difficulty was that motorists had one standard Kjieed and the public another. Arthur Hcnsmnn was also fined 20s for a similar offence. ALLEGED INTENT TO DEFRAUD. Christchurch, Last Night. Frederick Marshall, ex-manager of the United Farmers' Coal Obmpany>, was charged at the Police Court to-day with on or about January 27th destroying a ledger and cash-lbooli with intent to defraud the United Farmers' Coal Company. After evidence was given, accused reserved his defence and wa ß committed for trial. Accused was also cited for trial on three charges of failing to account for moneys received on behalf of the company.
