GARRISON BAND BALL.
The Taranaki Battalion Band held its annual ball in the Theatre Royal last evening, and, coraidering the wretched weather which has prevailed for some weeks .past, and the deluge of yesterday morning, there was a very good attendance The band was unfortunate, .too, in the fact that one of the units of the battalion had a social function in progress the same evening. The function was attended by Major Malone, Quartermaster ' Okey, and Chaplain-Maior Evans, of the battalion staff, and Cantain F. T Bellringer, of the Taranaki Rifles. Mr. H. Okey, M.P., and Mrs. ile Worshi P the Mayor and Mrs. Tisch were also present. The appearance of the volunteers and bandsmen m uniform greatly enlivened the scene. Capital music was provided by Mrs. George's orchestra, some new •pieces being excellently played. Messrs E. Clarke (secretary of the'committee). E. Humphries and W. Way, Sergt. Joseph, and Bandsman Home were the M.C.'s, and tbc ladies' committee comprised the following:—Mesdame* Q Tisch (.president), F! E. Clarke, Brookes Back, E. M. Smith, A. Hoskin, Coleman! J. Koch R. Jury, and Knight, Misses' Kirkby, Hanna, Nicholls, Pearce and Buchanan. The supper-room was under their control, the tables having been decorated by Mrs. and Miss Clarke The supper was a credit to all concerned. Ihe function, as. usual, was a most enjoyable one.
