Mr. Jerry Ormsby, chairman' of the Waitouia County Council, and a wellknown Ic Xuiti interpreter, was accidentally killed on the railway line on Saturday night by the WellingtonAuckland express. The body was discovered On Sunday morning. SWEPT AWAY BY FLOODS. Hastings, Monday. An unknown man was drowned in the Tukituku river yesterday. He was sean to attempt to ford on foot the river, which was high, and was swept away before assistance could be rendered. A search is.'being made for the body. FOUND DROWNED. ■Wihangarei, Monday. Wm. Smith, aged 22, an cx-nvemibcr of the Hongkong police force, left Dyson's store at Parahiki on Friday at noon on horseback for a farm five miles away. On Saturday morning Smitlifc horse, with the saddle and bridle on, was found on the opposite bank of the Opokino river, which was heavily flooded. Search parties were out all Saturday and Sunday till 3 p.m., when Smith's dead body was found further down the stream. Deceased had been .married two years and leaves a widow and child.
