HEAVY FLOODS.
DAMAGE AT THE THAMES, TWO LIVES LOST, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Thames, Monday. Heavy floods are reported in several districts. Near the Thames a large area ■ was under water, and the damage is' much greater than at first anticipated. A ■bridge at Tairua recentlv completed was earned away by kauri'logs sweeping away Die foundations' ami carrying the whole structure to the booms.' A portion of a suspension bridge was also carried away. Reports from other districts state that all the rivers are in Hood, and Unit much damage has been caused. Loss of lives also occurred. Ilonrv Davies', aged 17, and Albert liiley, 20, whilst _ engaged at road work' near ililiutai, endeavored to return on horseback. but were swept away by the rusiiImg river Their bodies were found yesterday four chains from the bank of the river covered with «aml and debris. A pitiful feature is that the father of Davies waited for hours to warn others of t'he danger. lie left reassured bv their non-appearance that they would uu. i!pt the dangerous task.
