Fitzherbert, S.M., on a charge of being on the premises without lawful excuse. The accused was sentenced to fourteen days'"imprisonment with hard labui,t.nis being his first recorded offence of this kind.

The Railway Social Club's progressive euchre party, and dance last night in the Brougham Street Hall was, as usual, a great success. There was a large attendance, and the club's arrangements were very ■ conveniently arranged for patrons. When the last bell went, and Ihe count took place, it was found that the ladies' prizes had been won by Sirs. Stewart (first and Miss Cowling (second). The gentlemen's prizes fell to Mr. D. licaidon (first) and Mr. 0. George (second). After a capital supper had been served an enjoyable dance was held. Mrs. George supplied capital music and Messrs Maxwell and Ruddy were the .UC.'e The annual ball of the Fitzroy Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the i'ltzroy Hall on Thursday. With a good lloor, excellent music, a splendid supper, and ttn ideal evening for danchg, the large number present enjoyed them-1 selves thoroughly. The arrangements had been excellently carried out. The hall was gaily decorated with Hags lent by Mr. It. Cock. Music was suppli'd by Mrs. George's orchestra, and Foreman Parkin and Firemen Aroa and Tar iter acted as M.C's. The bountiful and tasty supper spread in a large marquee lent by Mr. A. Lealand, reflected great credit on th e ladies' committee—Mcsdames W. H. Griffiths, R. Parkin, R. Bellringer, J. Kibby, Francis, Hall, and Lamb. The supper tables were- decorated by Miss Outfield.
