FIRE AT INGLEWOOD
On Thursday evening a fire occurred ut Inglewood, affecting tlie promises opposite the; railway station occupied by Mr. B. dough (draper), Miss LilUnul)iner), aud .Messrs. Weston and Weston (solicitors). The outbreak was first noticed by some people awaiting the arrival of the first evening train from the south. Thv brigade was soon on, tlie spot, and <|;ik'k!y had the flames, under control, but not before a good deal \ cf damage had been done. The fire] originated in a room in the back por-; lion of the building occupied by Miss: Lill, who had only recently sold y?ufi. •the goodwill of her premises to Mr. i dough. Miss Lill had retained this back room for the purpose of clearing off the balance of her stock. It is thought the outbreak was duts to some defect in a spirit lamp which had been used during the day. The corner of the wall and roof of this room were burnt througn. Fortunately the llames did not spreaa towards the front of the building, water, heat, and sn\oke did a good deal of damnge to Mr. dough's stock, and water and smoke about £lO worth of damage in Messrs. Weston and Weston 9 office. Miss Lill's loss is estimated at C*)o. The extent of the damage to Mr. Ctougli's stock was not ascertainable Mr. Clough is insured in the .Standard office for ;C2."jO. and it is understood that Miss Lill hud a policv in the same office.
