STOCK MARKETS. NEWTON KING'S REPORT, At the Haymai'ket on Saturday there was a good entry of pigs, weauers miking 4s lid to lis (id, small stores 10s lid to lis, porkers 21s, s'ows 25s to 32s Od. Several horses changed hands at prices ranging from £1 lis to £3 2s Od, cart and harness £4 ss,
At Douglas on Monday weaners maue 28s to 2Us, forward cows £3 5s to £3 lis, 18-montlis steers £2 10s, 2 to i'/y year do. £3 3s to £3 Ss, lambs Ss 3d U) 8s lid, call lambs 4s (id.
At Stratford on Tuesday cattle came lorward in good numbers and bidding was brisk, nearly everything being sold at the hammer. Fat and forward cows were in good demand, and sold at advanced rates. 1 quote as follows:--Weaners 15s' to 20s, empty heifers £2 2s to £2 15s, in calf do. £3 17s to £4 lis, do. small £2 13s to £2 18s lid, springing heifers £4 12s 6d to £5 10s, store cows £2 2s (id to £3 Is, forwn"d do. £3 5s to £4 Os lid, fat do. £4 Os' to £6 13s, 18 to 20-months steers £2 13s to £2 ISs, 2'/ 2 -yeur do. £3 10s 01, 3-year do., good condition, £5, bulls £1 lis to £3 14s, pedigree Jersey bull £ll. On Wednesday I held a clearing sale at L'renui on account of Mr. G. Courtney. The cows were a nice lot, but .n poor condition, and under the circumstances realised good prices. Early calvers made £0 to £0 15s, late do. £3 os to £5 10s, doubtful and empty cows £2 to £2 10s, breeding sows, poor condition, £1 lis to £2 (is, boar £1 Is. furniture and sundries sold well.
The same day I held a clearing sale at Ngaire on account of Mr. J. Rohs'on, when there was a good attendance and brisk bidding throughout. The cows were a nice lot, practically all early calvers coming hi during August and September. Prices for these ranged
from £7 to £l2 os, backward do. £1 15s to £li os. springing heifers £3 to £O, yearling heifers £2 3s, 'oull £2 12s Ud, fowls 2s Id to 2s 4d, harness horses £22 to £2O, spring cart £l4 ss. Furniture and sundries realised satisfactory prices.
VICKERS AND STEVENS' REPORT. Messrs. Viekcrs and Stevens report that there was a good yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday, and nearly everything was sold at the following prices:—Calves 15s (id to £1 ss, empty heifers £2 to £2 4s, heifers in calf i'B 10s to £3 3s, spring calves £3 to £4 ss, springers £4 to £5 15s, store cows £1 15s to £2 14s. ,
ADDINGTON. At Addington live stock market on Wednesday the entries of stock were I'maller than of late, no doubt on account of the wet weather on Tuesday. There was a good attendance. Ewes showed an advance, and other store sheep were without change. Fat lambs were down about Od per head, and fat sheep opened at about last week's rates. Fat cattle improved to the extent uf about Od per 1001b. Pigs sold without change in values. . The entry of store sheep was about the same as' last week's in point of numbers, the larger proportion being hoggets. Breeding ewes were in stronger demand, anil sold at an advance of Od to Is per head on last week's rates. Several pens of ewe hoggets, both halfbred anil crossbred, sold well. A wellgrown line of ewes from the south made 16s 7d to 10s' Od, f.m. ewes 10s Oil to lis, and aged and cull sorts 7s to Us 6d; thrce-quartcrbred ewe hoggets made 12s Od to 14s Id, halfbred ewe hoggets 12s Od to 15s Od, the latter price being realised for a good line of Leices-ter-merino cross; mixed sixes made 0s to 10s', mid wether hoggets 8s Od to 9s !0d; wethers, of which several lines wore yarded, sold at last week's rates, forward sorts making 12s to 13s.
There were about 3000 fat lambs penned, and the quality wiis below the average, though there was one line of exceptionally good tegs. The market was easier, and prices were down about Od per head. Tegs' sold up to 15s 7d, a few extra heavy to 18s; average freezers 12s Ud to Ms, and lighter sorts 10s (id to 12s.
The yarding of fat sheep was smaller than last week, the bulk being wethers. There was not such keen competition for freezing wethers as last week, and wethers were consequently, somewhat easier. Ewes, on the other hand, weie tinner. The range of prices was: Freezing wethers 14s to 15s Od, heavy butchers' wethers 10s to 18s Od, light and unfinished 12s 3d to 13s Od; prime ewes 12s Od to 15s 3d, medium 10s Od to 12s, iight and inferior 8s to 10s. There was a small yarding of store cattle. There was dull sale at the following rates:—Eighteen-inonths £2 Ds, .'-year heifers at £3 Is, 3-year steers £5 10s 8d to £5 13s', and drv cows 20s to £3 10s.
There Wure a few good dairy cows among a small yarding of this class, but the better sorts were in good demand. Sales took place lit £3 10s to £0 ss.
The supply of beef totalled 2SO head of good average quality. The sale began with fairly brisk competition, but opening rates were not maintained, though prices at the close showed an advance of (id'per 1001b on last week. Steers made £7 to £ll ss, heifers £5 to £8 15s, and cows £4 10s to £8 ss—equal to 20s Od to 22s Od for prime, 10s to 20s for medium, and 17s Od to 18s Od for cow and inferior per 1001b. The yarding of pigs was not a large one, and prices 1 showed little change, -tores being in good demand. Choppeis '.old ii[i to £5 ss, heavy baconers 55s to 02s, and lighter sorts 50s to Sisequal to i'/~d per lb; large porkers 38s !o 445, and lighter sorts 32s to 37s—equal to 5%d to Od per lb; large stores 28s to 335, smaller 17s to 275, and weaners 12s Od to 10s Od.
BUKXSIDE. At Burnside stock market 105 fat cattle 'were yarded. At the commencement prices were much the same as' last ! week, but they eased considerably towards the finish. Best bullocks £0 10s to £lO 10s, extra £l3 ss, medium £8 5s to £O, inferior £7 to £7 10s; best cows aad heifers £0 10s to £7, extra to £8 10s, medium £5 to £5 15s', inferior £4 to Ji4 10s. Sheep.—3l43 yarded; a large entrv. The quality was good, and prices, im account of the freezing buyers, were firm at late rates. Ucst wethers 10s io 17s od, extra 18s 3d, medium 14s to 15s, inferior 12s Od to 13s; best ewes 14s to l.'is- Oil, extra 10s Od, medium lis to 12s Od, inferior Ss Od to 0s Od. Pigs.-140 yarded. Small pigs formed a good proportion of the yarding, good eales resulting. Porkers and baconers were in good numbers, and, owing to some outside buyers being present, brisk sale too place. Suckers !)»' to 13s, slips 14s to 17s, stores life to 245, porkere 33s to 3t)s, light baconers 43s to 4Ss, heavy 53s to 04s.
WANGANUr. Dalgcty and Co. report: —We varded 2500 sheep and a small entry of "cattle. A big proportion of the sheep consisted of medium lambs, which sold remarkably well. With the exception of one •pJ'U of sheep and one pen of cattle, a total clearance was made under the hammer at full market rates. Fat wethers 12s Od to 13s 2d, aged store wethers lis Od, mixed-age ewes ill lamb 10s to 12s id, cull do. 7s Od, cull empty ewes oa to os, medium to good lamb's 8s Od to 9s 3d, lambs 5s Od, small en' ! lamlis 3s 7d, small emptv heifers £2.
