THE LNGLEWOOD INCIDENT. A "Daily News'" reporter yesterday had a couple of converastions at Waitara in connection with the egg-throw-ing incident alleged against the Clifton Cluib's second fifteen at fnglewood last Thursday week, about which there has been a good deal of comment. Mr. 11. Spurdle, the secretary of the club, said he had received a denial of the charge from every member of the team, and from those who travelled with them in the brake. Each and every one of them had since signed an affidavit to the effect that he had aot thrown an egg or seen one thrown on that occasion. Mr. Spurdle was asked how this could be reconciled with the s'worn affidavits of the lnglewood gentlemen who had sworn to being pelted with eggs from the hrnke. The answer was that they had sworn nothing of the kind, but that they were struck or splashed by eggs as the Clifton team's drag went past. They had not sworn that the eggs came from the vehicle That was merely inference. A little Inter Mr. T. Buchanan was seen concerning the matter, and he volunteered the statement that the Inglewood people were satisfied that tire Clifton men were innocent of the charge brought against them. Investigation had shown that the eggs came from the disappointed Inglewood-ites, who were likely to be named in connection with the affair. The matter seems to warrant further invest!.ration and if the above ini formation i i correct, the charges should be withdrawn.
