TOLL-GATES OR RATES?
To the Editor. Sir,—l see by your paper that the county chairman makes a statement that there is a possibility of a township being formed;, to be called St. Au%si, the same cutting off some £370 revenue annually from that body. IJe also states that if formed, the board will take over one mile of county road. Docs he mean that under the present system that mile pays £370 in rates to the 'county? If so, and the estimate for the whole riding is aibout .€OO per mile, why impose the %d rate on these over-rated people in that mile without "having a road? I maintain that for the last 'four years not £6O a year has been spent on that mile in maintenance, and it is in a bad state. —I am, etc., IUTEPAYER.
