HOCKEY.

The Management Committee of the Taranaki Hockey Association met on Monday night. Correspondence was read from the Auckland, Gisborne, Hawke's Iky and Wairarapa associations relative to the ThTT' u Ur , °. f the Tariraaki team. Ihe Auckland Association ollcred £a for a match with Taranaki at Auckland after the return of the Auckland touring team at the end of August. A further letter from Auckland stated tnat they would expect the same amount from the Taranaki Association or the match against Auckland ai Mew Ilymouth on .Saturday, August 28 otherwise the match would have to w arranged with another association where a guarantee was obtainable as the Auckland Association, tne letter stated, was financially weak. Wairarapa, Hawke's Hay and Gishorne Associations .oliered percentage of gate for a match at their respective centres. Mr. Awry pointed out that since an Auckland team had visited Taranaki a Taranaki team had twice played in Auckland last year (a Shield match) without any financial assistance, so that Taranaki were under no financial obligation to Auckland for a return visit this season.

It was decided on Mr., Dewhirst's motion that Messrs, I'erham. Avery and tne secretary be a sub-commm.ee to make all arrangements ;and deal with correspondence regarding representative matches.

Referring to the custom of receiving and giving donations for inter-provin-cial matches, the chairman said that it would be far more satisfactory if a general rule were made that home teams retained all proceeds of matches. On Mr. Perham's motion a resolution to this effect was adopted and the Auckland and other associations will be advised accordingly. Trial matches will be arranged at a later date. Messrs. Avery (North) and Thomson (South) were appointed selectors for their respective divisions, and Mr. E. B. Anderson selector of the representative team. . •A letter was received from trie Kitham Club asking permission to con duct a five-a-sidc tournament at j!l----tham, at a date to be fixed, on behalf of their club funds.

Messrs. Avery and Pertain said that for; some time they had been considering the advisability of the association holding a tournament in the Recrea tion Sports Ground, the proceeds to go towards the travelling expenses of the representative team. The committee decided to hold a five-a-sidc tournament in the .Recreation Sports Ground at a suitable date to he arranged, and that the request of the Eltham Club be granted; the Eltham tournament to be held at a subsequent suitable date.

The secretary reported that the president had been in communication with the Railway Department regarding the .charge of rowdyism in a railway carriage preferred against the Kin bra Club. The Department had decided not to pursue the matter further, but had advised tyiat all ticket privileges granted to athletic teams wou.u hj« discontinued if further similar complaints .renclie I the Department.

It was decided to advise all the affiliated clubs of the Railway Department's reply, and to taKe any further action the president might consider necessary. The secretary's action in arrangug with Mr. ]j. Goldwater to represent the association at the conference of Xeiv Zealand referees was confirmed. It was decided on Mr. Perham's motion that the proceeds of home representative matches this season he devoted to the travelling expenses ol tho representative team.
