Sydney, June 22. Sir Joseph Ward was welcomed by the representatives of the Government and General Gordon. A large gathering of New Zealaudcrs were on the wharf. They greeted Sir Joseph with cries of '• Kia Ora " und cheering. INTERVIEWED IX SYDNEY. , NEW ZEALAND'S CONDITION.

The cause of • a great deal of the slump was clue to J the fall in wool values a year ago and ' over-speculation in laud in some parts of the country, making a tight money market. The wool exports had now improved, while the Hunk of New Zealand luul experienced a remarkably good year. The tightness of money caused lew people to employ as little labor fls' possible. The financial condition of the country, from the Government point 'jf view, was good. The most pessimistic, must, he said, realise that the resources of New Zealand were so great and so wide spread that a check must be of a temporary character only. .' .Sir Joseph left for 'Melbourne tonight.
