THE RICHMOND TRAGEDY
AN ACQUITTAL. Melbourne, June 22. O'Sullivau, a butcher, hat been acquitted on a charge of murdering Mrs, Uallagher at the suburb of Kicomond on May -H. Deceased, who was 76, and living by herself, was found brutally murdered, th« suspected motive being robbery. O'Sullivau, a butcher, living next door in a house belonging to tin* victim, wai arrested on a charge of drunkenness, and was discharged. A butcher's «teel was found among the bedclothes is the victim's house, ,o'Sullivan admitted that the steel belonged to him, and could not say at the time low it came into Mrs. Gallagher's possession. Ha said he had been lying about his yard for some time about, tne time ot the murder. He admitted that ho was in arrears with his rent and that deceased, had served him with notice to quit, but he stoutly denied any connection with the murder.
