PALMERSTON WINTER SHOW.

THE FIRST DAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. I'almerston North, Last Night. The seventh siiow of the .National Dairy Association was opened to-day by the Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture. The big hall of the A. and P. building is full ot machinery, mostly all being in motion. The greatest number of milking machines evei i,iuug,-i together in the Dominion arc shown, and tlie machinery exhibits include all the latest improvements in dairy plant. The champion class for apples, of six varieties, open to the whole Dominion, drew twenty entries, ,T. dishing (Clive) being awarded first prize; F. W. Mayo (Palincrston) the second; the Stoke Fruitgrowers' Association (Nelson) being third. The display in this class was absolutely the liirest' ever seen in the Dominion. The Minister for Agriculture was particularly impressed with tue quality of the apples, and said the collection was the finest he had seen anywhere. The root crops also form a magnificent display. The shield for the best collection of field roots was won by W. J. Balsillie, Slack Bros, being second, and R. Lancaster third.

The school exhibits were comprehensive, and the Department of Agriculture has a very large show covering all the phases of agricultural life, and created much interest.

Taken as a whole, the dairy show is the greatest of its kind yet seen in tno Dominion. DAIRY PRODUCE.

Mr. Cuddic, Dairy Commissioner, speaking of the butter and cheese exhibits, said they were excellent in quality, tlie cheese'being' especially good. The awards in the butter section are as follow:

Best box of export butter—Makctawa 04; Heretaunga, 03%; Tauranga, 03; Moa, 02'/,; Tarata, 91%; 'Normanby, 00%. I'actory butter from bulk—Rangitikei, 94%; Opotiki, 04; Taihape, 03%; Midhirst, 92%; Wlienuakura, 02%; Moa, 91%; Waverlcv, 01; Hillsborough, 90; Makctawa and Pihama, 00; Waitara, 80%; Tarata and Warea, 80; Normanby 88%; Mungatoki and Mclls, 88.
