DEATHS OF TWO CHILDREN.

The evidence at the inquest in Conner,tion with the i'ataruni accident shows that trucks of timber were being drawn from the Tulurn Timber Company's mill to tile railway station, the horse going at a trot. The driver, who was standing on the halters behind the horse, saw the children on the line and called out to them. Some of "the children went oil' tlic line towards the road. , Two girls named Collier went on the opposite side of the line and endeavored to save themselves by standing close to the' timber skid. Before reaching the children the. driver jumped off, ran to the hack of the truck, and put the brake on. Hut he was too late. The truck came in contact with the children and crushed flicm in the chest. The driver saw the children fall. An examination by Dr. Stewart live minutes after proved that the accident was fatal. The driver's yicw was ohscured by trees. He was "within fifteen yards of the children before he saw them. A verdict of accidental death, with no blame attached to anyone, was returned. A rider suggesting the removal of the trees was attached.
The girls, aged 12 and 14 years respectively; were returning from school. They were the only children of their parents, for whom much sympathy '<& felt. Collier, the father, works in connection with the mill.
