ABNST v. Wlilili. THE FINAL DEPOSITS. 8y Telegraph.—Press Association. Wangaiiui, dune IS. The final deposits «a £3OO per man were lodged with the stakeholders for tliu Arnst-Webb match to-day. Both men. continue to do good work and report themselves as being very well. Arnst does much more work on the river than Webb, who is fit. Wubb's supporters are t'onfident lie will be fit to row the race of his life next Tuesday. It is generally understood that he put up a remarkably fine trial over the full course on Sunday though the time has not leaked out.

Whelch mhde the pace at the start, but was left in the rear after going a mile. The ex-champion continued at practically the same pace to the end of the second mile, and at the bend Green picked him up; but Webb soon drew right away rowing 20 to the jmnute, and finishing with a splendid burst over tne last 200 yards, striking 29. The way he sculled down the home stretch greatly impressed the touts, his very strong finish denoting that lie is perfectly sound and well. After passing the post he waited for Green ani Whelch. The three then paddled down to Aramoho, a distance of four miles. Webb was out on the lower course yesterday, covering the mile and sprinting with Whelch. He will do the rest of his rowing on the lower course. Arnst put in very solid work on Sunday and yesterday. He came down stream in front of the steamer, rowing very fast for a mile, then easing up he finished the course steadily.. In the afternoon he was out again doing long, strong work with a few sprints. Wanganui, Last Night, A fresh in the river interfered somewhat with the training operations of Webb and Arnst to-day. The latter, however, did 'a good row and shaped well. Webb, who evidently satisfied liimself and his party on Sunday afternoon, thinks that he can cover the full course in his best style. Tie will take

things easily till Tuesday next. He had two short rows to-day, and practised starting and sprinting.
