PRINCE OF WALES' BIRTHDAY
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Feiiding, Thursday. The holiday is not being observed by business people. A few 'flags are Hying. Wellington, Thursday. The weather for the holiday, which is being generally observed, is dull. The local attractions include representative hockey and football matches and the pony races, numbers of people have gone to Otaki,
Wanganui, Thursday. The holiday is being quietly observed here. The only attraction is the shooting for the West Coast Battalion shield and representative football and hockey matches. The weather is fine. Christchurch, Thursday. The half-holiday was not generally observed, but Canterbury College celebrated it as Empire Day. The (Governor presided and delivered a speech of some length. He deprecated jingoism in these celebrations, ft was far better, he said, to realise the dilliculties and responsibilities ol' the Empire, which was one of tremendous strength, but stupendous carelessness had been displayed ill arranging the forces. Recent events would be a bles'sing in disguise if the only result would be the naval conference. He referred to the excellent spirit actuating the various colonies, and expressed admiration of Xew Zealand's .Dreadnought oiler. Palmerston X., Last Night. To-day was observed as a general holiday.
