TARANAKI LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The annual meeting of the Taranaki Licensing Committee was held yesterday morning. Present: .Messrs 11. S. Fiizhcrbcrt, S.M.. (chairman). W. L. Newman. W. Amburv, .). S. iii-Kellnv, and 11. Okev M.l'.

Renewals of publicans' licenses were granted lo George Bishop, Taranaki Hotel (Mr. Grcv); Francis Foster (Terminus Hotel I Mr. Grcv); Peter Mellvride, Criterion Hotel (Mr. T. S. Weston); Edwin Whittle, Bed House Hotel (Mr Quiiliniii); Thomas Knowles, Breakwater Hotel (Mr. T. S. Weston); Ruth Nicholas, Grosvcnor Hotel (Mr. Quilli'ain); .lames Smith, Imperial Hotel (Mr. Quilliam); Walter Little, Okato Hotel (Mr. Johnstone).

A renewal of the accommodation license for the Oakura Hotel was granted to Donald MeKinnin Bain (Mr. Quilliam).

The 'Northern Steam Ship Company (Mr. Quilliam) was grouted a renewal of its packet license for the s.s. Rarawa.

Renewals of wholesale: licenses were granted to h. D, Nathan and Co., Gokhvater Bros., and Win. Humphries, trading as S. L. -Humphries' and Co,, for all of whom Mr. Quilliam appeared, The bench agreed to hotel street lamps being extinguished at 10 p.m., as heretofore.

The fees for conditional licenses were fixed at ,tl per day. Appreciative reference was made by the bench and by Mr. T. S. Weston to the fact that there had been no opposition lo flic renewal of any licenses, no black mai'k-s against anv'of the hotelkeepers in the district, and no requirements by the police. The committee eousvnted to Mr. P. Mellyride, licensee of the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth, leaving on a holiday for the benefit of his health. Mr. L. I Steele to take charge in his absence.
