RIOTOUS POLICEMEN.
FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULT. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the Magistrate's Court to-day Mr. Riddetl, S.M., gave his decision in the case in which Police Constables John Ki Watson and William Joseph Gardiner were charged with assaulting YviUiam Kolfe and his wife on the night of May 10. His Worship commented in strong terms upon the conduct of the mei. He said he had carefully considered the, case from every side, and if there was a possible chance of finding some redeeming feature in favor of the defendants he should be glad to do so, but he could not do so. .Watson was fined the maximum penalty of £lO, and Gardiner £5. Gardiner was also convicted of an assault on Mrs. Holfe and sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment.
