GERMANY'S NEW TAXATION
THE PROPOSAL RUSHED THROUGH. DEPUTIES WITHDRAW FROM THE HOUSE. Received 1, 11.15 p.m. Berlin, Juno 1. With the object of defeating the »ucceesfon duties the Conservatives on the Reichstag's Finance Committee coalesced with the Centre. Subsequently, after a stormy scene, the National Liberal!, Radicals and Socialists, protesting fiat this was an inequitable attitude, withdrew, whereupon the Conservatives and Centre rushed through new and increased direct taxes totalling £10,350,000, including duties' on lighting, cooking apparatus, spirits, cosmetics, beer, tobacco, railway tickets, matches, grain milling, and export coal; also four million from stocks and shares, and three million from land values and land transfer. There are indications that the Chancellor (Prince Huelow) is willing to make tennis with the Clericals and Conservatives.
