At the Wellington I'rowucial Confer cnec of the New Zealand Fanners' Union the following resolutions were carried: ( 1) " That Hie Government request property owners not to make returns under the land-tax valuation, seeing the (Department takes no notice/ Wl the
returns scut in by the owners, but always lakes valuators' value." (2) "That the Union support the ■Chamber of Commerce in condemning the present graduated land-tax." (3) "That all land boards consist of five members, two to be elected by Crown tenants, tiie (ioveniuient to appoint two, and the Commissioner to be chairman.' (4) "That the Union endorse the Chamber of Commerce Conference that the mortgage tax lie abolished and taxation of mortgages be in the form of income-tax." (3) "That the Government be asked to repeal the legislation which caused the, withdrawal of outside capital from the Dominion." (li) " That tlie conference endorses the oiler of the Dreadnought." An amendment that the gift was unconstitutional was lost after a long discussion, Mr. Outline, M.P., voiced the opinion that members of Parliament should have noon consulted, as he did not think the matter of so great urgency. (7) "That steps be taken by legislation to relieve the Dominion of the responsibility of indemnifying the Insurance Department against possible losses and the issue of policies to miners without examination."
