FOOTBALL.
BANKS AND LAW MATCH. Tlic only attraction for yesterday's Holiday was the football match between New Plymouth and Stratford Banks and Law teams. Un the hall being brought into play the local forwards worked the ball over the line, and Tiirnbull touched down. Grant failed to increase the score. Soon after, a passing rush in which Grant Turnbull, anil Addison took part, ended in the latter crossing the line. Turnbull's kick failed. The local team now had tilings all their own way, and Grant scored~three additional tries after splendid feinting runs, one of which Stowe converted. Time was called with the «core: New Plymouth 23, Stratford 0.
~ WESTERN DIVISION. On Saturday Opunake senior? defeated Okato by 8 points to nil. Tries scored by J. O'Dea and J. Hickey. On the Opunake ground the Okato juniors were defeated by the home team by 22 points to nil. It seems that neither Pihama nor Rahotu are putting in junior teams. This means that Okato and Opunake w''l have to fight the western division out between them. SOUTHERN DIVISION. At Manaia on Saturday Waimate 1 defeated Hawera I by 39 to nil. Waimate II defeated Hawera II by fl to nil,. Okaiawa II defeated Kapoiga II by 0 to 3. Results of Christchurch"senior matches: t Albion 6, Linwood nil; Christchurch 11 ' Canterbury College"3; Merivale 6, Sydenham nil j Old Boys, a bye. Dunedin senior matches: Port Chalmers 12, University 3; Southern 32, pirates nil; Alhambra 6, Dunedm nil; Zingara 4, Kaikorai nil; Taieri 3, Union 3 (draw).
REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. The Taranaki - Association met last night, when there were present: Messrs. G. Griffiths (in the chair), Roch, Way, Johnson, Binnie, Woods, Clark and West, Mr. W. J. Perrett, of Eltliam, was admitted to active membership, <n advice received from the Wanganui Rugby Union. Mr. W. H. Elliot, of Waitara, was also admitted as an active member, he having produced credentials from the Manawatu Union. Mr. P. Douglas was elected a member subject to examination. ' i
-Mr. W. Roch, referee in the CliftonStar first junior match on May 20th, reported having had trouble with the spectators at Waitara, .and being subjected to insulting and obscene language.—lt was decided to ask the Taranaki Rugby Union to instruct clubs to appoint officials to control the public and keep thein off the ground during the i progress of a match. !
