SELWYN CENTENARY.

CELEBRATIONS AT AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The celebrations of the Selwyn centenary arranged in connection with the diocese of Auckland, took place to-day, and were largely attended, the Governor taking part in each of the two functions. In the afternoon lx)rd Plunket laid the foundation stone of the Pattcson memorial wing of St. John's College at Tainaki. Ttiis,' wing will form the first instalment of future permanent rebuilding of (St. John's College, which was founded by Bishop Selwyn in 1842. The total cost of the new wing will be about £OOO. It will accommodate 30 students, and will also provide accommodation for the valuable library presented to the college by Dr. Kinder, a former Warden of the College. In the course of their speeches the Bishop of Auckland and the Governor Ootli strongly advocated the proposal that St. John's College, which was not merely a theological College should become a residential college affiliated to the University of New Zealand.

This evening « public meeting, presided over by the Bislliop. was held in commemoration of the centenary. Speeches were delivered by the Bishop, the Governor, the Hon. Dr. Findlay, Mr. J. H. Upton and the Hon. E. Mitcliclson.
