News from Tonga states Hint a hurricane swept over tilie island of Niafoou on April l:t. and completely destroyed the plantations. It aUo wrecked over three hundred native houses and several churches, including big buildings erected by' the Free and Wesleyan Methodist*, the latter structures being curried away bodily. The village of Itafoc on the coast suffered most. Not a house was left standing. ■A family of six, including four child-. ren, lied from a wrecked dwelling before a howling storm ami amongst a hail of timber and corrugated iron. All were injured. One little girl, aged twelve, was struck by a sheet of iron, which completely decapacitated her. Her head was found two days later in distant busili. The mother and other three children were either killed outright .by living timber or died from injuries next dav. The damage is estimated at'ovcreHit thousand pounds. The plantations will not recover for about three years. Probably it will be necessary for the Government to send food supplies
